English B is offered under Group 2 subject. Students can choose between Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL).In this subject, native English-speaking teachers handle the classes, and the lessons are conducted entirely in English.
Traditional English education in Japan often focuses on activities like “solving workbook exercises,” “memorizing grammar,” and “learning to write vocabulary words.” While these skills are naturally expected, English B goes beyond by utitlizing an English B textbook Oxford published.
Other than the use of Oxford reference, HL students also read two novels written in English. The class focuses on discussions, presentations, and other interactive activities, developing students’ international-mindedness through critical and analytical thinking and engagement in other related activities.
A minimum English proficiency equivalent to Eiken Level 2 to Pre-1 may be necessary to feel comfortable with the course. However, through regular exposure to English in
class, students’ language skills develop consistently. In addition, independent study is also an essential part of success.
