Mathematics AA is offered as the Group 5 subject. Simply put, it’s math. Students have
the flexibility to choose to take this subject in either Japanese or English, and they also
have the option of Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL).
If you choose the English option, classes will be taught by native English-speaking
teachers, enhancing learners’ understanding and fluency in the language of instruction. In traditional Japanese math classes, the primary focus is obtaining the correct
answer. If the answer is incorrect, even if your approach is correct, you may not receive
any points. However, the IB program takes a different approach, even if the final answer
is incorrect, partial credit is awarded for demonstrating the correct thought process.
Additionally, IB Mathematics often involves collaborative problem-solving. Students frequently use chalkboards or whiteboards to work through problems together, fostering teamwork and active participation. This not only enhances their problem-solving skills but also encourages communication and cooperation.
